WATCH OUT FOR WANGU
Authors quite often get asked by schoolchildren to 'write them in' to their next book.
For one schoolboy in Bolton, it paid off. Wangu Chafuwa met Ali Sparkes when he took to the stage at the Bolton Book Awards in 2007 to introduce his favourite shortlisted book, Finding The Fox from The Shapeshifter series.
'Wangu was so funny on stage, he totally stole the show,' said Ali. 'He's got such star quality that when he suggested I write him into my next book I just said "OK - I will.". And I did. He only crops up quickly, in Frozen In Time, but he's quite heroic.'
Wangu, who goes to Thornleigh Salesian College in Bolton, received a signed first edition of the book, along with a second one for his school library.
'I've just finished the book - and my part is very flattering!' said Wangu, 13. 'The library is really pleased and excited too. It's great to be immortalized in a book!'
